APU Showcases the Art of Margaret Lazzari
September 4, 2008
AZUSA, Calif. –
From Sept. 8-20, Azusa Pacific University will host an art exhibit featuring the work of Margaret Lazarri, professor of art at the University of Southern California. Lazarri, an accomplished artist whose works have been featured across the United States and Europe, and author of The Practical Handbook for the Emerging Artist and Exploring Art: A Global, Thematic Approach, showcases her unique and expressive style in “Wild Biology.”
On Tues., Sept. 16, at 3 p.m., attendees can hear Lazzari discuss her work at the Artist Talk. A reception follows from 6-8 p.m. in the Duke Art Gallery on APU’s West Campus, located at 701 E. Alosta Ave., Azusa. Gallery hours are Mon.-Sat. 9 a.m.- 6 p.m. and Sun. 12-4 p.m.
The exhibit, featuring works in acrylic on canvas, embodies and communicates the robust, wild exuberance of the biological world. The paintings contain rich formal elements, including densely packed compositions, tension between abstraction and realism, and a strong use of color.
“Our apparently solid world is mostly a void that contains dispersed specks of matter animated by vibrating energy,” said Lazzari, as she explained the exhibit. “In developing a visual equivalent for this fundamental quality of the physical world, I looked for natural phenomena that have an open ‘architecture.’”
