Profile
Charles Stegeman, concertmaster of the New West Symphony, made his recital and soloist debut at an early age. Stegeman was accepted into the Curits Institute of Music at 14 years old, received his bachelor’s degree at age 20, and continued on in graduate studies at the Julliard School, receiving his artist’s diploma. While working toward a doctorate degree at the University of Michigan, he was offered a teaching position at the University of Missouri at Kansas City along with concert masterships of the Kansas City Symphony and its affiliations. As a winner of five national and one international competitions, Stegeman performs approximately 75 concerts a year as concertmaster, soloist, and chamber musician.

Besides his duties with the New West Symphony, Stegeman is concertmaster of the Pittsburgh Opera Orchestra, concertmaster and chamber music performer with the Music Academy of The West in Santa Barbara, CA, and the St. Bart’s Music Festival in the French West Indies. He is also associate professor of Violin and chairman of Strings at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, PA. Stegeman is also currently a visiting scholar at Azusa Pacific University. As the recipient of many awards, grants, and scholarships, Stegeman has recorded for Sony Classics with the Pacific Symphony and is published by Chamber Music America.
