Melanie Galloway, DMA
Associate Professor of Music
School of Music
Profile
Melanie Galloway comes to APU from New York City. She has sung principal roles in opera and classical chamber music in the United States and many European countries such as Belgium, Germany, France, and Italy. This includes being selected as an "Artist on the Rise" in Belgium and featured on concert radio broadcasts and interviews, and singing televised concerts in Italy for RAI Italian television. She has also sung in Thailand, the Philippines, and Peru to benefit local churches for world outreach and education.
Galloway's repertoire includes singing operatic roles such as Micaela in Carmen, Marguerite in Faust and Mimi in La Boheme. In the past few years, she has also focused on building her chamber, oratorio, and recital works. As a soloist, she has performed repertoire such as Brahms' Ein Deutches Requiem, A Sea Symphony by Ralph Vaughan Williams, and Bach’s Cantatas No. 36, 57, and 187. In the 2004-05 season, she was invited to sing a series of Bach chamber music concerts at several venues in China, including the Shanghai Grand Theatre.
Galloway has won opera awards and competitions including the Gunsales Young Artist Award, district winner in the Metropolitan Opera National Council Awards, and the Medaille D’Honneur in the Concours Lyrique International de France. She has also participated in the St. Louis Opera Apprenticeship program.
While she considers it an honor to have worked with many fine conductors, coaches, and directors such as Steven Marinaro, Kurt Klippstatter, Joan Dorneman, Jim de Blasis, Colin Graham, and Francesca Zambello, one of the most meaningful and artistic influences in her life has been her teacher, Diana Soviero, in New York City.
Galloway loves singing and teaching, and considers it a privilege to be a part of Azusa Pacific University and its blossoming School of Music and Opera Department.
